Will the treatment hurt?

We do everything possible to make your visit as comfortable and pain-free as we can. If a procedure is required, we’ll gently numb the area using a small amount of local anesthetic. Most patients report that the numbness wears off within 2 to 3 hours after the treatment.

Do I need to come back for a follow-up appointment?

Yes, we typically advise patients to return for a follow-up visit one year after a root canal is completed. You’ll receive a reminder from our office when it’s time to schedule your recall appointment.

Can I eat or drink before my procedure?

Yes, eating and drinking is allowed before your visit. After your treatment, we recommend chewing on the opposite side of your mouth for a few days to promote healing. Please wait until the numbness from the anesthetic wears off before eating or drinking to avoid accidentally biting your tongue, cheek, or lip.

Will my insurance pay for the consultation or root canal?

Coverage depends on your insurance provider and your specific policy. Our team is happy to contact your insurance company on your behalf to confirm your benefits and provide an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost.

Is there anything I should do before my procedure?

You may eat and drink as usual prior to your appointment unless you’ve been advised otherwise by your dentist or physician. No pre-medication is necessary unless specifically prescribed.

Do I need someone to drive me to my appointment?

In most cases, patients can drive themselves to and from the office. If you will be receiving sedation, we ask that you arrange for someone to drive you home for safety.

What if I have an after hours/weekend emergency?

Our doctors are on call after hours and on weekends. If you feel you need to speak with a doctor, please call: 619.298.9985 and our answering service will put you through to the doctor on call.
